Copper plate engraving. Approx. 7. 5 x 4.5 cm in the plate. Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu, Cardinal-Duc de Richelieu (9 September 1585 – 4 December 1642), a.k.a. l'Éminence rouge ("the Red Eminence"), French clergyman, noble, and statesman. Appointed as King Louis XIII's chief minister in 1624, he is known as the world's first Prime Minister, also founder of the Académie française, and chief antagonist of The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. Mounted on card back. NF.
