Copper engraving from the attractive survey of the sculpture in the Boboli Gardens in Florence, Italy. The garden was designed by Niccolo Tribolo for Cosimo I de' Medici, the construction of the Boboli gardens began in 1550. During the next half-century all the prominent architects and sculptors working in Florence had a hand in shaping its final state: Baccio Bandinelli, Vasari, Ammannati, Buontalenti, and Giambologna, as well as Stoldo Lorenzi, the promising young sculptor who had worked on the fountains at Castello. The engraved plates were admirably executed by Gaetano Vascellini (1745-1805), a Florentine engraver of the school of Ercole Graziani and Carlo Faucci.
